Join historian Dennis Chastain for a dynamic presentation exploring South Carolina’s often-overlooked Revolutionary War history. PCLS and the Pickens County 250 Committee are bringing this special program highlighting the British strategy to reclaim the South and the Patriot counteroffensive that reshaped the Upcountry. Chastain will share the story of the 1776 scorched-earth campaign against the Cherokee and the resulting cession of land that became modern-day Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee counties. Learn about the Battle of Esseneca and other critical events that reveal the deep roots of the American Revolution in our own backyard. Don’t miss this chance to engage with South Carolina’s rich Revolutionary history and discover the remarkable local stories that helped shape our nation.

The Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library is located in Easley, SC just off of Highway 123. This location serves as the headquarters for the Pickens County Library System. The facility features the largest reservable meeting space within the library system as well as a conference room, several smaller study rooms, a historical room and archives lab. Public computers and 24/7 wifi access are also available.
