History of Roots and Ethnic Music in South Carolina

Join us for an interactive music presentation exploring how European, Native American, and African influences shaped American music styles with SC Humanities speaker John Fowler.
An interactive timeline lecture with music presentations. John connects the dots, linking music heritage relative to region, ethnicity, religion and culture. The presentation is an overview of parallels between European, Native American and African influences which played an important role in shaping American music forms and styles, from field hollers and chants to blues and gospel. Early forms of folk/country and bluegrass are also introduced.
This presentation is provided by the SC Humanities Speakers Bureau and will be held in the meeting room as you enter the building on the right.
Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library
The Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library is located in Easley, SC just off of Highway 123. This location serves as the headquarters for the Pickens County Library System. The facility features the largest reservable meeting space within the library system as well as a conference room, several smaller study rooms, a historical room and archives lab. Public computers and 24/7 wifi access are also available.
